AREAS OF PRACTICE

CIVIL LITIGATION: The firm specializes in civil litigation. On a daily basis, our attorneys represent litigants in arbitrations, mediations, court trials, jury trials and appellate practice. Attorneys in the firm adjudicate civil cases, regularly serving as Superior Court Arbitrators and Judges Pro-Tem.

CORPORATE BUSINESS AND TRANSACTIONAL LAW: The firm represents corporate, business and probate clients in transactional planning, and advises such clients in non‑litigation matters, drafting and interpretation of contracts, business litigation, corporate law and estate planning.

CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS: The firm handles many complex cases including condominium damage from landslides, subsidence, and subterranean water intrusion, often involving multi-unit property damage, and bodily injury and wrongful death from defects in all aspects of construction.

INSURANCE LITIGATION: Barry L. Allen and Debra E. Allen are recognized experts in insurance policy coverage, insurance bad faith and proper/improper claims handling by companies/entities.

PUBLIC ENTITY DEFENSE: The firm primarily represents public agencies such as the County of Orange and the Orange County Flood Control District defending the agencies, their departments and employees from tort claims, ranging from personal injury and property damage claims to inverse condemnation and defense of actions involving major devastation from fire and floods. The firm also represents other public agencies in Orange County on similar matters.

REGULATORY AGENCY ACTIONS: The firm has successfully defended contractors and other employers from Labor Board, Cal. O.S.H.A., and other regulatory agencies.

MINORITY CERTIFICATION: The firm also assists companies seeking certification as a women’s minority business.

APPELLATE PRACTICE: The firm, primarily through partner Debra E. Allen handles civil appeals.

HOMEOWNER’S ASSOCIATION: The firm represents both homeowner’s associations and individual homeowners in disputes involving CC & Rs and association rules and regulations.

PROBATE, WILLS & TRUSTS: Barry L. Allen prepares wills and trusts , handles conservatorships and the probate of estates, and represents parties in contested matters.

CLIENT LIST

The firm represents numerous corporations and individuals in business disputes as well as defense of tort claims, such as the San Bernardino train derailment and explosion of May 1989. In the interests of protecting our clients' privacy, we refrain from listing individual names.

For somewhat in excess of 30 years, partners in the firm have represented the County of Orange and the Orange County Flood Control District. The firm has handled bodily injury, property damage and civil rights cases for the County of Orange, including jail injuries, heavy equipment injuries, County roads, the harbor, autos, fires, floods, wild animals, land subsidence and explosions. We have also handled employment discrimination cases, worked for the Sheriff's Department, Office of the District Attorney, Personnel Department and represented judges of the Orange County Superior Court.
